Last weekend’s late season North Pacific XXL swell saw Jaws rumble to life again, likely for the last time this winter. An elite crew of big wave paddle chargers were on it as usual but this time the 8-hour session didn’t go quite their way.

Difficult wind conditions and the raw, wild energy of the swell served Shane Dorian a two-wave hold-down, Twiggy Baker 4 broken boards, Dean Morrision a concussion… A boat even flipped! And then there was this wipeout from local Maui boy Dege O’Connell, earning him a trip to the hospital with an injured leg. Ouch!
