The official cetacean position with regard to the stand-up paddle boarding community remains ambiguous. Tension came to a head last year when an angry pod of dolphins took out an SUP as he/she/it returned to the line-up, in what appeared to be an instance of the phenomenon known as surf rage. This orca whale, however, seems more favourably disposed to SUPer Luke Reilly, who captured this footage off the coast of Whitianga on New Zealand’s Coromandel peninsula a few days ago. Or perhaps this is just the killer whale equivalent of taking the piss?
