Animal High Lines Episde 2

Stokesy & Sky Shaw score!

In 2015 Animal ran an Instagram competition inviting fans to #jointheride for a chance to win a trip of a lifetime with an Animal athlete of their choice. The winner, Sky Shaw, is a 17 years old surfer from Saltburn-by-the-Sea, North Yorkshire. They waited for the perfect forecast to hit the Moroccan shores and sent Sky on a plane with Alan Stokes for a few days of scoring.

“On the second morning we were awoken by the sound of the locals’ morning prayer. We loaded up the jeeps, threw the boards on the roof and headed south to find some rippable waves,” said Stokesy.

“The guides took us to this A frame set up in Anza. We were the only ones out and Sky being goofy was gunning for the lefts, leaving me with all the rights. The wind started to howl from the south and suddenly we started seeing some sweet little ramps materialising on the inside. I landed a couple of lofty ones that felt really nice.”

“After breakfast, we headed in search of somewhere a little more sheltered. The winds weren’t looking too hot for the points, so we drove off road and pulled up at the edge of a sandstone cliff where we were greeted with an empty 4 to 6ft right hand slab. We were out there!”

“The water was so clear and blue and again we were the only ones out. Sky had a good dig at a solid 6ft wedge that went completely crazy as it detonated on the reef. He popped up on the inside with a big grin on his face after taking a solid wipeout, and I thought to myself “well that’s about as bad a wipeout as he’s going to get out here,” a little relieved that he was ok after calling him into it! We both surfed our brains out, catching perfect barrelling wave, one after the other.”

“We definitely didn’t think we would score a hollow slab with no one out! We sure felt lucky and blessed. We surfed there again in the evening as it continued its flawless show of perfect tubes, then enjoyed yet another Moroccan sunset as we prepared for the building swell the next day.”

Don’t miss the boys’ last day in Moroccan as they embark on a mission to find the ultimate point break, check back next week.
