“A couple of decades ago, Bilbao was a city with a bleak outlook,” offered Basque photog/all-round good guy Pacotwo. “Industrial decline, unemployment and acid rain were what the Bizkaian capital was known for. Politicians began a comprehensive renovation plan of the city (Guggenheim, port, etc) and the truth is that the city was regenerated in almost every aspect. Even the sea wanted to come to the party too, and formed this brand new wave that never existed before. The Acero Brothers have spent countless hours surfing this stretch of coast, and this day we scored some fun waves with Kepa. But despite all the urban renewal, revival and new energy, there’s not much to be done about the weather. Bilbao is grey and proud.”
